The Wimberley Valley Art League, a non-profit organization, was started in 1990 by three hill country artists with a common vision. The League continues to grow each year, attracting members from Wimberley and towns throughout the valley. Our current mission statement, We promote, inspire, and support the visual arts in the Wimberley Valley remains true to the vision of our founders, with membership open to artists and art-supporters alike.

HISTORY

In 1989, Gail Stoops had a vision of an organization to bring artists in the Wimberley area together.  Working with Pam Lamoureux and Nikki Johnson, Gail took steps to form the Wimberley Valley Art League.  The founders enlisted Lois Roper, a fine artist and highly respected gallery owner to serve as the first League president.

The stated objectives of the founders were to

  • promote an interest in and recognition of visual and functional art in any aspect, whether it is presented by painting or craftsmanship.

  • encourage enthusiastic support and appreciation of all visual and functional art forms in Wimberley and surrounding communities.

  • present, through the media of demonstrations and workshops, the talents of recognized artists and craftsmen in order to promote an atmosphere for learning.

  • assist in the development of community-wide interest in all visual and functional art forms through sponsored art sales or shows.

We thank the founders for their efforts, the members for their participation, the community for its support, and the volunteers who have served on the Wimberley Valley Art League Board.
